Atención on Tyler Belo, who plays Benny in In The Heights!

Check one, two, three! Atención on Tyler Belo, who plays Benny in In The Heights!

What are some of your favorite roles you’ve played?

“Some of my favorite roles I have played before would be Horton from "Suessical the Musical" I also loved playing Mereb in "Aida." Those would probably be my top 2 if I had to choose they were both so much fun.”

What kind of theatre training do you have?

“I currently go to Five Towns College and I am studying Theatre Arts. I have been acting in shows and musicals since I was about 11. I have taken a few Stage Combat classes as well as a few dance classes at the Broadway Dance Center.”

What does this role mean to you?

“This role means the world to me. This is one of my favorite shows if not my favorite. It taught me a lot about community and growing as a person to be stronger as well more confident in yourself. Benny is a dream role of mine, he is almost an outsider in the community because of his cultural background yet he is incredibly energetic and keeps a good head on his shoulders most of the time. Playing Benny in this production of In the Heights will be an incredible feeling.”

“CAP is an amazing theatre to perform at, this is my first show at CAP and the cast has been nothing but supportive as well as the creative team. I am thrilled to be apart of such a talented cast and family and can't wait to show everyone all we have to offer. Never give up on your dreams and keep striving for happiness, art lives in you forever!”

Come and Meet Julian Marsh

Come and Meet…Nick Masson who plays Julian Marsh!

At CAP, Nick has done Fiddler on the Roof (Motel), Little Shop (Orin, et al), All Shook Up (Jim), Hairspray (WIlbur), Guys and Dolls (Nathan Detroit), 42nd Street (Julian Marsh) and up next Uncle Ernie in Tommy.

How long have you been performing?
Growing up in NYC, I took various acting and voice classes, as well as being exposed to a plethora of the arts. Ever since I could remember I did plays and shows. In fact, when I was at sleep-away camp, I did the shows because it meant I got to spend more time on girls side! I also attended Stagedoor Manor and received my BA in Theater from the College of Santa Fe. Performed on various stages throughout the country either doing regional gigs or touring.

What does this role mean to you?
Playing Julian is a blast. Having the chance to walk in the shoes of Jerry Orbach, Michael Cumpsty and the others before me is a thrill. Additionally, having a chance to put my own spin on it. He is a pitbull with a soft bite. A man with a vision who does what needs to be done to get the show up.It has been great to work at CAP and continues to be. It's a safe and welcoming environment where an actor can truly spread there wings. I said it before and I said it again, I'm sure that if we had known about CAP when I was growing up that my mother would have had me signed up and schlepped me back and forth!

Come and Meet Peggy Sawyer in 42nd Street

Jess Schaffer who plays Peggy Sawyer talks about her experience!

At CAP, Jess has done in the heights 3 times (going on 4), hair, and bye bye birdie!

How long have you been dancing?
I have been dancing since my first mommy and me class when I was 1 year old and I never stopped! I went to Jam Dance and competed there for 11 years, USDAN as a dance major for 8 years, and I taught tap at numerous studios across the Island! I was a musical theatre/dance major at the Long Island High School for the Arts junior and senior year, and I am now an applied dance major at the University of Tampa!

What does performing mean to you?
This role means more to me than I can imagine. This show is an absolute dream come true. I first saw 42nd street at the Engeman Theatre in Northport, and from top to bottom, my jaw was dropped. This show seemed like the most incredible piece ever to me, and nothing since then has changed my mind. Being able to play the underdog who fights her way to the top helps me in my everyday life to be the best person and performer I can be on a daily basis. I'm so lucky to be playing my dream role. When I came back to cap after leaving (for school) I feel like a new and better person. Everyone is so loving and welcoming and will jump for you if it means making you a better performer or person. Having people truly want to see you succeed is the greatest feeling in the world, and I am so so grateful and lucky to have an amazing family at the Cultural Arts Playhouse!
