S2 - WILL POWER – AN INTRODUCTION TO SHAKESPEARE’S TAMING OF THE SHREW
Monday/Wednesday, 3:00-4:30
6th – 12th Grade
Instructor - Samantha Eagle
We’ll be taking a deep dive into another one of Shakespeare’s most notable works, The Taming of The Shrew, and using this text, we’ll learn how to read, analyze, and understand his writing style. We’ll additionally look at some of the famous adaptations of this play, such as the movie 10 Things I Hate About You and the musical Kiss Me Kate. This play’s enduring popularity is in part because of the brilliant double act of Petruchio and Katherina, the “tamer” and the “shrew”. The comedy is silly, and sometimes downright cruel, but it’s also endearing and genuinely funny – a great introduction to Shakespeare’s comedies. This course will require the kids to do some reading outside of class, but we’ll provide a copy of the text. This class can be taken as a follow-up to the Macbeth course, or on its own!
